Favorite Spot, 2006
nine panel front door windows
private collection
When the idea of making a stained glass design for my own front door came up I turned to translating a painting of mine into glass again. This time I turned to a painting of a favorite spot down the road, an old two-tracker through the fields as it passes between some Cedars. It took me quite a while to begin this project but once I started cutting the glass it moved along pretty quickly by stained glass standards. When each panel was finished I brought them up from the workshop and displayed them by propping them in a window in the house. Eventually they all made their way to this window and it was quite a shock to transfer them to the door, where there is a lot less direct sunlight. But after the comedy of errors I created by installing them all into the door it has made a meditative little niche out of our mud room.
