Sunny Ford

Sunny Ford, 2009

oil on canvas

On the Dukes Creek Falls path you wind your way down the mountain until you reach the creek. There the old roadbed goes across the creek in a ford, and you see the other side of the road emerging from the water. There is a wide, flat part of the creek here, one that a lot of sun reaches. It's the second painting from this very spot that I have done, the first one being Dukes Ford. This time I am focusing on the light in the woods across the creek, with very little water in the view at all. There is just something about a clearing in the woods, when a shaft of light penetrates the canopy and puts a place in a spotlight that I just never can pass without taking a look at.
