Gully Washer, 2009
oil on canvas, 28" x 23"
I took a walk down the trail near our house after the rains had let up. It had rained almost four inches that weekend and I wanted to see the little stream. It is usually a trickle of water running over the rocks and filling small pools but this day was different. It was a raging stream, and the water was doing just what I saw it doing in the mountains a few days before, crashing over rocks and making whitewater everywhere. I had been painting this kind of water for a couple of weeks and I wanted to capture it on the smallest scale while showing the power of the little creek.
