Evening Pool, 2010
oil on canvas board, 14" x 11"
I walked farther up the creek in the Kalamazoo Nature Center than I had been since I was a kid recently. The sun was setting and the light was coming straight down the ravine. Around a bend was a dammed up spot with the colors reflecting from the leafy hillside in it. The contrast of the still water and the rest of the rushing creek stopped me. Something about this kind of place, far away from anyone wandering through, seemed a perfect spot for me to stop and appreciate.
