Early Spring, 2009
oil on canvas board, 18" x 14"
private collection
When I work with Palette knives I find myself being more concerned with the light that with the forms. Maybe it's because I don't find the same precise control with them as compared to working with brushes. I seem to pay better attention to light when I work this way and for me this painting is really a good example of that. There really isn't much of a subject here, rather it is a simple composition with some nice structure. The real subject I am working towards is this light and color of early Spring with its crisp clarity and new growth.
