Red White Oak, 2006
oil pastel, 23" x 18"
private collection
There ia a great White Oak across the road from my house that turns a fantastic shade of red in the Fall. This year I planned to draw it and kept checking every week as to the progress of its colors. One bright day I got some terrific photos of it, and did a sketch or two, looking for the best angles and views. I decided to get the easel and oil pastels up there the next day at the right time for the best shadows. Unfortunately it rained the next two days and the winds blew most of the leaves off the tree so my best view was saved only by the sketches and photos which I worked off of for this finished piece.
