Morning Pool, 2007
oil pastel, 16" x 16"
One morning while in Cloudland Canyon I was looking for things to draw. I was in the upper end of the canyon where a small set of falls was dribbling over the edge of the massive rock. It was another drought and there wasn't much water in the creek. The view wasn't giving me much to draw but when I turned to head back I stopped along the side of the creek and noticed this rock. The morning sun was starting to hit the upper woods and made a bright reflection on the pools below while the rocks where I was were still dark. Contrasts like this are quickly becoming prominent features in my search for images.
