Morning in the Pecan Orchard, 2007

oil pastel, 18" x 24"

One bright morning I went for a sketch drive. I hadn't driven around to look for places in a long time since the gas prices seemed to get so out of hand, but this was close to home and I was very clear about where I was going. There aren't many pecan orchards in my neck of North Georgia but this one, and I love looking to them for inspiration. The sun was lighting the leaves from behind and the woods behind set the tree apart, calling me to draw them. I sketched and photographed on the shoulder of the road for a good hour before I headed home and started working this large oil pastel out.
