Backyard Lilies

Backyard Lilies, 2007

oil pastel, 13" x 16"

While visiting my Dad in Michigan while my Mother was in the hospital I took advantage of some down time to go into the back yard where I grew up and drew these bright orange Lilies. It was such a happy little cluster of blooms and drawing them took me away from the worries of the day. Creating a drawing or painting is such an act of Faith, such a chance taken, that you really have to lose yourself to the act and let it take you where it will. My Mother died about a month later and these flowers seem all that much more special to me.
