Christmas Cove at Sunset

Christmas Cove at Sunset, 2005

oil pastel, 13" x 16"

There was a brilliant sunset one evening while I was on Monhegan Island. I went to Lobster Cove and along to Christmas Cove to watch the light change. The rocks were alive in the intense light and I stopped to draw this spot, with the intent to come back the next bright twilight and bring the pastels. This drawing was done a few nights later, the light had come back and my work could continue. Drawing fast enough to stay ahead of the fading light was the real challenge.
